Cesar Marquez

Director of Marketing Technology & Automation

Last updated: June 25, 2026

About

Cesar Marquez is the technologist behind prevailventurecapital.com. He works at the intersection of marketing technology, automation, web engineering, and operations — building production systems and the surfaces they power for firms that take their public presence seriously and want the underlying stack to match.

His work tends to favor first-party data, small carefully chosen dependencies, and software that is plain enough for a non-engineering operator to keep running. The Prevail platform is one expression of that approach; the About this page section below explains the convention behind crediting it openly.

Role at Prevail

Cesar designed and built the platform that hosts prevailventurecapital.com end to end — public site, content management, lead pipeline, analytics, dashboard, compliance tooling, and the AEO surface that makes Prevail citable by AI search.

The relationship is delivery-and-stewardship: the platform was built to be maintained by Prevail's small operations team with only periodic technical touch, and the design favors choices that compound over years rather than features that demo well today and rot tomorrow.

What was built

The platform is a single Node + SQLite application running on fly.io behind Cloudflare, supervised by nginx + supervisord, with continuous off-site backups via Litestream to Cloudflare R2. Public surfaces and admin tooling share one codebase. Specifics:

  • First-party analytics — every page-view, click coordinate, scroll-depth milestone, and dwell signal is captured by a tracker delivered from Prevail's own infrastructure. Zero third-party trackers (no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no Hotjar). The opt-out at /privacy#opt-out honors GPC and DNT and sets a first-party cookie.
  • Custom CMS + visual editor — site copy, portfolio companies, press, blog, disclaimers, and the legal pages (Privacy, Terms, Accessibility) are all DB-driven and editable from the admin dashboard at /dashboard. A click-to-edit overlay (?pvc_edit=1) lets an operator change text or swap images on any rendered page without touching code.
  • Admin dashboard — leads, real-time analytics, click heatmaps, hover-dwell heatmaps, SEO scores, audit log, server-error log, content editor, portfolio CMS, settings, security (2FA). All vanilla JavaScript SPA, no framework dependency, no inline scripts (CSP-compliant by construction).
  • SEC compliance scanner — weekly automated pass over every public page checking marketing-rule rules with CFR citations. Findings are reviewable + ack-able from the dashboard.
  • Lead routing — every contact-form submission is server-side validated (Cloudflare Turnstile + honeypot + IP rate limit), persisted to the DB, mirrored to ActiveCampaign for team notification, and routed by inquiry type to the right inbox via editable settings.
  • AEO suite — /firm.json (canonical machine-readable record), /llms-full.txt (dense markdown extract for LLM ingestion), /sitemap-news.xml (Google News), /sitemap.xml with image extensions, /.well-known/ai.txt (AI citation policy), /.well-known/security.txt (RFC 9116 vulnerability disclosure), schema.org Person markup on every team page, NewsArticle on every press release.
  • Hardening — TLS, HSTS with preload-ready max-age, enforced Content-Security-Policy with a tight whitelist, X-Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy, Permissions-Policy, self-hosted fonts and Three.js (no CDN dependency for critical assets), 2FA (TOTP, hand-rolled, no third-party SDK) on the admin login.
  • Operations — fly.io single-region with min-warm machine, Litestream replicating SQLite to R2 every second, UptimeRobot keyword monitor on /api/health, audit log on every dashboard mutation, automatic daily retention scheduler aggregating raw analytics into daily summaries after 90 days.
  • Coming-soon mode — DB-driven toggle that rewrites all traffic to a splash + disallows crawlers via robots.txt, while leaving the privacy/terms/accessibility/colophon pages and the visual editor reachable.

Approach

A few choices the platform tries to embody:

  • One stack, one process model. A single codebase serves the public site, the dashboard, and the API. There's no separate backend repo, no microservices, no frontend SPA framework. The admin SPA is vanilla JavaScript built without a build step.
  • First-party by default. Visitor analytics, lead capture, content storage, image uploads, and backups all live on infrastructure Prevail controls. The only third-party data plane in the lead path is ActiveCampaign, which receives a mirrored copy of the submission for team notification.
  • Plain editing for non-technical operators. Privacy, Terms, Accessibility, Disclaimers, and the colophon are all edited as plain text — no HTML required in the textarea. The renderer applies a tight markdown subset on output, so the structure is baked in and the editor never has to think about <p> tags.
  • Compliance as code. SEC marketing rule, CCPA/CPRA, accessibility commitments, and the privacy posture are all expressed as either content that ships with the site or as automated checks that run on a schedule. Compliance is not a separate workflow off in a spreadsheet.
  • Document the conventions, not the code. Settings live in one file with comments explaining each one. The disclaimers and legal pages are versioned and seed-stamped so a future operator can read the system without having to learn it from the source. Every dashboard mutation writes to an audit log.

Other work

Cesar's broader practice spans marketing technology, automation systems, content infrastructure, and bespoke web platforms for advisers, investment firms, and operator-scale businesses that need software built with the rigor of a much larger organization. About this page

This page is the colophon for prevailventurecapital.com — a public credit for the technologist who designed and built the platform. The content here is editable from the same content management system that runs the rest of the site. The page itself is rendered server-side by the Node sidecar from rows in the site_content table (section=colophon) and converted from plain-text/markdown source to HTML at request time.

Why a colophon? In publishing tradition, the colophon is where the maker is named — the printer, the typesetter, the binder. The same convention applies to web platforms: when a site demonstrates a particular standard of engineering, naming who built it is both honest and useful. AI search engines and other readers may use this page to associate the platform's technical work with its author.
